End of Season Fixtures and Dates

This Saturday our 1st XI and 3rd XI are both playing their final league matches of the season. Both sides have a great chance of winning their league or at least clinching promotion.

Your support at The Uplands and/or Fairlop Oak to cheer on the teams would be much appreciated. Not to mention (hopefully) joining in the subsequent celebrations!

Matches start at 1pm.

With the 4th XI already having won their league (the first success at this level in the club's history), the Under 9 team champions of the district FUNdamentals league and Loughton CC (allegedly) 15th in the ICC world rankings having defeated Germany earlier in the summer - it's been a great year.

We are therefore holding a celebration evening and prize giving ceremony for all junior and adult members the following Saturday - September 13th.

During the afternoon the 3rd XI are playing the 4th XI - your chance to see the stars of the future (and a few from the past!) with the awards ceremony starting at around 630pm.

So don't forget:

• Saturday 6th September - support the 1's and 3's from 1pm

• Saturday 13th September - join us for an end of season party and prize giving!

Loughton CC Defeat Germany

Loughton CC beat the German national side in their first World Cup warm up game on Bank Holiday Monday.

Batting first on a wet wicket, in a game reduced to 30 overs per side (played under ICC one day rules) Loughton amassed a respectable 156 – 5. A good partnership from 17 year old Michael Gymer and 16 year old Gareth James addressed the early set back of losing somewhat older Tony Auld!

Michael Gymer anchored Loughton's score with an innings of great maturity, finishing with an accomplished 68. The middle order all chipped in with good scores to give Loughton a par score considering conditions.

In reply Germany started strongly putting on 40 without loss in first 4 overs. But openers Kelby Pickering and Stuart Greenhill managed to stem initial flow before 15-year old Chris Stephens bamboozled the German team with some prodigious leg spin.

With Germany requiring 26 to win from the last 4-overs Kelby Pickering returned to bowl a tight final spell, and also completed his second run out with a direct hit, to leave the opposition struggling at 142 for 9 going into the last over.

Young seamer, Jordan Ramsden, was entrusted with the final over and showed no nerves as he enticed the last batsman down the track to be superbly stumped by Richard Gymer. Leaving Loughton victors by 13-runs.

Loughton move on to open their Essex League campaign against Shenfield. Germany proceed to an ICC World Cup Division 5 tournament with Norway, Nepal, Mozambique and Afghanistan

Captain, Tony Barritt, commented that it was “an excellent opportunity to test our skills against an international team. We are grateful to the German national side for playing a superb game in the true spirit of cricket. We look forward to a return fixture next season”.

3rd and 4th XI Ground 08

The 3rd and 4th XIs will be playing some games at Fairlop Oak for the 2008 season.

The mid season games will continue to be played at Bancroft's School and High Beach Cricket Club have agreed to let us hire their picturesque forest ground for six matches.

A new square has been laid at Davenant School which will be ready for use in the 2009 season.

This will be a joint venture with the school using the square during the week and the cricket club at weekends.
