History

Loughton Cricket Club

Was formed in 1879, which currently makes us 146 years old.

We are one of only a few Essex Clubs to still play in a picturesque town centre location, in a beautiful ground complete with our iconic thatched pavilion, which is now nearly 100 years old.

We have three international standard practice nets and a completely renovated eighteen pitch cricket square.

Within the last twenty-five years, we have built a new pavilion, refurbished that pavilion and changing rooms, now suitable for women and men with individual showers and toilets.

We have replaced our old scorebox with a modern electronic scoring system. This was upgraded in 2018 to the latest LED system. We also now can televise our home games on the internet.

We are a non-profit making club and all funds are invested back into the club, to improve the facilities and help create chances for anyone to get involved in playing cricket. Our Five Year Development Plan, setting ourselves achievable goals, ensures the club is on track to complete its key objectives.

We now run four XIs on Saturdays, all within the ECB recognised Hamro Essex League which has 50 clubs.

Having been a mainstay of the Premier League for many years, our 1st XI are promoted back to the Premier League for the 2026 season. Our other 3 XIs all play at a competitive standard and there is some friendly cricket on Sundays.

Loughton was one of the first clubs in Essex to achieve Clubmark status back in 2003, and we are delighted to say that this is in place until 2028. Clubmark is the universally recognised mark of high-quality junior sports clubs. Clubmark recognition ensures that children and young people can enjoy sport in a safe and fun environment giving peace of mind to parents and carers.

This is a great achievement for the club and congratulations go to all those involved.

We have a thriving Junior section, running sides from ages 9 to 19 with help from numerous active qualified coaches. Our Under 16s won the Essex Matchplay Competition in 2013 and 2016 and again this year 2025 and were runners-up in 2014,2015,2017 and 2024

We also this year reached the final of the Brian Taylor Essex Under 12 Competition and the MET Board Under 15 Competition.

We run the ECB All Stars programme with nearly 100 participants, introducing young boys and girls to the sport.

We have a group of young girls who hopefully will again form a women’s team in due course, to build on the previous success we have enjoyed in women’s cricket.

During the winter we run an adult side in the indoor competitions, as well as junior teams at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15
