Message on New Sponsor and Arrangements for 2021 Season

08 Apr 2021

Dear Members,

We are delighted to announce that we have secured a new primary sponsor for the next 3 years. Woodbury Homes have kindly agreed to support the Club for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons. In such a difficult economic climate we are extremely grateful for the support from Stuart Linney and the team at Woodbury Homes.

The Club shirts and jumpers, which will soon be available from the Club shop via the website, will carry the Woodbury Homes logo as will the advertising hoardings adorning The Uplands.

We would appreciate if members could replace their old shirts at the earliest opportunity.

To facilitate the switch, the club are offering a £5 rebate per each old shirt surrendered to the Club. Old shirts will then be donated to www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com . This promotion is on a one shirt per member basis and against evidence of the order of the new shirt. It may also be worthwhile talking to team managers and captains as a further discount may be available for larger orders.

To continue the exciting news, we are also extremely pleased to announce that Loughton CC will be represented by a team in the Essex Women’s Premier League in 2021. This fantastic development is a natural progression from the work of Paul, Tina and Jon in running two girls junior age group teams over the past few years.

The team will be captained by Grace Melhuish a current Essex County player and the games will be played on Sunday afternoons. We hope, coupled with some sunshine, that they will be a great way for members and friends to enjoy elite sport on their doorstep.

With the introduction of girl's cricket into Schools and the recent success and popularity of Women’s cricket, this is a brilliant time for the Club to be able to increase the participation across all our members and create a pathway for our best female players to move into the senior women's game.

The girl's and women's teams would not have been possible to build up without the tremendous support of Town Close Financial Planning and the Jim Melhuish Foundation. A huge thanks from everyone at LCC for their backing.

The Club Committee have also been working hard to implement the England and Wales Cricket Board protocols so that we can provide a COVID safe environment for the 2021 season and would appreciate support from all our members in sticking to the rules which will be communicated via the website and team managers in due course. Please note car sharing is not permitted until at least 17th May. We have listed the junior managers and team captains contact details below so that everyone has a point of contact.

We expect to start junior training (U13 and below) from Friday 23rd April. Due to the Covid protocols numbers will be limited to ensure a safe experience for all. Please liaise with the relevant age group managers.

For players U14 and above, adult training will start Thursday 15th April. The League season starts on the 8th May and we hope to run at least 4 adult Saturday teams this year. Fixtures have been issued for 5 teams but the League realises that due to the slow emergence from lockdown many clubs will struggle to fill all teams (Captains details agreed so far are also listed below- we need help and volunteers to assist with the lower teams - please volunteer !). Again, places at nets will be limited, so please contact relevant Captains before attending so we can monitor the numbers.

The 1st XI will play Harlow Town in the League Cup at Home on Saturday 24th April as the season opener.

For any adult or junior players who have not played before or who have not played for some time, please reach out so that we can place you in the right team environment. We will also have some early season warm-up games and hopefully, a few Sunday Friendly games later in the summer for a chance to play some social cricket.

All Stars cricket for 5-8 year olds will run and the ECB's new follow-on coaching initiative Dynamos cricket, which we are running for 8-11 year old girls, will be held on Tuesdays between 5 and 6pm. Please see the link for further details www.ecb.co.uk/play/dynamoscricket .

Membership fees are now due and have been frozen for another year. For men; £100 per adult playing member (over 22) and £50 per junior member (£25 for an additional sibling). For women; £80 per adult playing member (over 22), £50 for ages 16-22 and £30 for junior members below the age of 16. For other memberships please see the website.

The bank details remain unchanged. The Treasurer (detailed below) can be contacted if there are any questions or clarifications required. We will place the 2021 Adult and Junior membership forms on the website in the next few days. Please bring the completed forms to the first training sessions for collection.

The Club relies on its membership fees to keep running. There are a huge number of ongoing costs; from pitch preparation to clubhouse maintenance, coaching fees to competition fees, insurance costs, tree felling and rubbish removal to name only a few! We really need your help to keep everything going and build some reserves for when larger items need replacing or repairing. Both the Thatch and the nets are in need of upgrading.

We hope to be able to run the bar, in some form, from mid-May onwards but, our initial priority will be to get the Cricket organised in a safe and well-structured manner.

Once we are up and running, we will also hope to announce some new fundraising ideas to try and match the amazing BNG Bat-a-thon of 2020 Crowdfunding to help support Loughton Cricket Club and the NHS through the COVID 19 pandemic by me batting for 643 mins replicating Michael Atherton in 1995 on JustGiving . Any ideas for fundraising would be well received.

The last 12 months or so have been tough for everyone and we hope that Loughton CC can assist, at least in a small way, to bring friends and family back together again in 2021 !!

Thanks, once again, to Woodbury Homes as well as to all our volunteers for their great generosity.

We look forward to seeing you all at The Uplands.

Best regards,
