A 1st XI containing three Matchplay winners and three debutants travelled to Chelmsford for the 1st round of the League Cup. Losing the toss, we were put in to bat on a damp wicket. Mo Hafeez hit the only six of the match in the second over before nicking one to first slip two balls later.
The return of Hamza Ahmed after a year out with injury meant that there were four teenagers in the side, and he top scored with 34. His score was almost matched by new boy Jonathan Almond (31), batting at no. 9. Our main batsmen performed poorly, with batsmen 3-8 scoring 18 runs between them with three ducks included. Extras were our third highest scorer, with 27.
Most of the bowling was good whilst the fielding was average. Three wickets each for Mo Ali Syed Zaidi and Bilal Butt weren't enough to stop us losing with over ten overs to spare.
