To all SNEL Delegates,

The club fora to discuss the restructuring of league cricket in Essex have now completed.

Disappointingly only 25 of the 40 SNEL clubs attended, and of those 15 that didn’t attend 9 were clubs in Divisions 2 and 3 who would most likely be impacted by any changes.  This means these clubs have lost the opportunity to air the views in a collaborative environment.

If any of the clubs below who failed to attend any of the 3 fora wish to make any comment or ask any questions they should send an email to myself and Dan Feist ASAP.

Buckhurst Hill, Ilford, Southend-on-Sea, Fives, Frenford, Orsett, South Woodford, Harlow Town, Horndon, Old Brentwoods, Woodford Green, Benfleet, Epping

I attach the document sent to clubs prior to the fora and the slides that were used at each fora, together with a summary of feedback.

Please take time to review these in your committees and with your 1st XI players (who are most impacted) in detail before responding to the below request.

As you will see in the final slide the next steps are for SNEL clubs to indicate their preferred option which will then feed into an Essex Leagues meeting (Adult participation group) later in Feb.

For clarity I have expanded on how any change would need to be implemented.

OPTION 1 – This can only progress if a 2/3rds majority of SNEL clubs vote for a change in our constitution to allow promotion and relegation from the ECCL and TRMEL into Division 3. The remainder of the SNEL structure would remain unchanged.

OPTION 2 – This does not need a vote of SNEL clubs and would be implemented by ECiC and a number of SNEL clubs 1st XIs would be invited to join the new league. However if this Option is implemented SNEL clubs would then have to subsequently vote to amend our constitution to bring in a Merit league structure as there would be an uneven number of 1st XIs remaining, once those clubs 1st XIs who have been invited, have joined the new structure.

For example, assuming 25 SNEL 1st XIs are invited to the new structure,  the new SNEL top division would contain the remaining 5 clubs from the current SNEL Div 2 and the 5 top clubs from SNEL Div 3. The next division would contain the remaining 5 clubs from SNEL Div 3 and the top 5 clubs from SNEL 2nd XI Prem and so on...

I need your responses to the questions posed below – one response per club and please ensure this is a club view and not just the views of the league delegate or committee:-

1.          Does your club believe that the SNEL should remain as a closed structure and only          allow new clubs to join in the event of a vacancy? – IE No change to current                    constitution – YES / NO

2.     On the assumption that a change will be implemented and given the information you          have at present which Option would you prefer to be implemented? OPTION 1 /               OPTION 2

3.     In addition to the two questions above please provide any further relevant feedback or          any requests for further information you would like on either of the options               proposed.

Please provide your responses to me by Sunday 10th Feb.
